audience and thesis

The audience is a big factor in how you write a message or story. If you are talking to a highly knowledgeable and adept group then you would want to explain your work or findings in a more descriptive and specific way than if you were just talking to a random friend about the subject. The same would be if you are writing a story for children you wouldn’t want to describe every little detail and not leave anything to the imagination because the kids would most likely get bored and not like the story you have written even if someone your own age would absolutely love what was written. The thesis statement is important for essays and papers. This is because it will let you know what the main point of the paper; it is a statement that opens you up to the paper. The thesis should be specific but still leave room for debate. The PEE structure helps to support your thesis statement by giving the Point you are talking about supporting it with Evidence and then Explaining why it is all relevant to the original point and thesis. This helps to organize the paper or essay in a way that shows support to your original thesis.

writing process

My writing process is still growing and expanding as I learn and develop into a better writer. I tend to put things off till the last minute but I have been working on this. I have gotten myself a planner that I write all of my homework, class activities, and time I have set aside for studying. My techniques for writing include making a brief overview of all the information I am writing about. Then I proceed to think of ways to organize my writings to where they will all make sense in the writing. A rough draft follows these steps. I proof read and get rid of all the spelling errors that I can find along with using my limited knowledge of grammar to help eliminate the mechanical errors (which there tends to be a lot). If I have someone around that I know and trust wont laugh at my writing abilities I have them do a quick peer edit. Finally I will start the final draft and with all the edits and mistakes that I know of clear I will write my paper and turn it in. Then of course pray to get a passing grade. That is the writing process that I tend to follow.

staying engaged

There are many ways to stay engaged in an online class or any class for that matter. I believe it is essential to stay on time or even ahead with your assignments. (Even though I’m turning this one in a day late) you have to stay motivated towards the subject or subjects in which you are taking. A typical problem I have is lack of desire to start an assignment but after I start I can typically trick myself into finishing the entire thing at one time. It is crucial to set aside enough time to do any and all of your work, rushing things doesn’t help you and it will definitely not help your grades. When you go to ration your time be sure to put more than you think you will need because more often than not some unforeseen difficulty will emerge and screw you over; and if you finish before the time you allotted congratulations you win not go outside and have a ball, climb a tree, play Frisbee, or whatever your little heart desires with the rest of the time you set aside. Just remember to stay focused and to make time for all reading and assignments you have and it will be that much easier to stay on track and complete your online classes.
